KL skeletonCome join us for this fun and practical exploration of our unique form and learn why no two people will ever experience the same yoga pose in the same way! Each week we will dive into different regions of our bodies. Starting with a review of the general anatomy we will then compare some anatomical differences and the practical therapeutic approaches to prevent injury and bring greater freedom and stability into your form. For those that have studied anatomy with Kristin before this will be a brand new series with really practical skills to view your body and the body of your students as they move through this dynamic and transformative practice.

Abs and Legs
Strengthening your Foundation/Mula Bandha with Liz

Abdominal strength is more than just crunches, andAbs and Legs connecting to the strength of your legs can bring a potent power to your core. In this workshop, Liz will teach specific abdominal exercises that enhance the relationship between your legs and your abs. Then she will lead you through Yoga sequences that you do in every class so you can feel and refine your newfound core strength as you do things like step to lunges, glide out to plank and jump forward. She’ll also review crow pose and other arm balances so you can understand why they are all about leg and core strength, not about arm strength. And throughout all of this serious leg and ab work Liz will make sure you maintain your sense of humor and even have some fun.

Flying through Transitions
with Mel & Liz

You can spend a lifetime working on becoming more graceful as you jump to Chatturanga, and we will review a lifetime of material in this 2 hour workshop. We’ll all rid ourselves of the nasty habit of jumping to plank, and we’ll practice jumping back from standing, crow, standing split and from sitting. Liz and Mel will work with each person to figure out whether props, ab exercises or simply a shifting of weight will create your most beautiful practice ever. All of our dedicated Level II and III students do not want to miss this.

The Alchemy of Transformation
2:30 – 4:30pm
Open to All levels

This vinyasa-flow class includes a special sequence of postures known to create a profound sense of stillness. Session also includes: Talk, breath-work, Tapas, (focused acts of intention and will), principles of ethics, and unifying meditation. The principles you will learn in this workshop will take you to new depths in your practice and inspire you for weeks to come. Bring your mat and writing materials. (please no recording equipment)
 
How Well Do You Sleep?

This workshop deals directly with the modern plagues of sleeplessness and stress. 80 million Americans suffer some form of sleep disorder that results in excessive daytime sleepiness. This workshop gives you knowledge to take home with you to help you sleep and live more at ease. Class includes lecture, gentle yoga postures, breath work, self-enquiry, and meditation. Appropriate for all levels. Bring your mat and writing materials.

Psoas Release Party
with special guest teacher Jonathan FitzGordon

Issues with the psoas can lead to any number of problemsjonathan fitzgordon throughout your body—both physical and emotional. Lower back pain and other joint discomfort as well as disturbances to the nervous system can be linked to the psoas. You will spend the afternoon with guest teacher Jonathan FitzGordon awakening, learning about and releasing the Iliopsoas muscle group and understanding its core function within the body. 

 
Jonathan FitzGordon is a yoga teacher and the creator of the FitzGordon Method Core Walking Program. He thinks the psoas is the answer to any question about the body (and he knows his anatomy backwards and forwards, so trust him on this one!).

February 12th & 19th 2012

Our Beginner Workshop Series is not just for brand new students. It’s a great chance for students who’ve been practicing for a while to check in on their alignment and knowledge of the major poses.

Mel, along with the other Level I teachers, will spend two Saturdays going over the most commonly practiced Yoga poses. This will give you a chance to fully understand your practice and be able to feel comfortable and safe in a Level I class. If you already have a Yoga practice, then you can check in and possibly relearn your poses. Many people never learn the safe way to do a Warrior I.

We strongly believe that everyone’s body is different therefore your pose will look and feel different from the person next to you. This workshop is a chance to find out what works for YOU and YOUR body. Once you have that information, you can make intelligent choices about how to proceed with your Yoga practice.

Price: $50 total for both days

*The Beginner Series is taught by Mel with help from other Yoga High teachers.
