1- Where is Yoga High and how do I get there?

Yoga High is located in Manhattan’s Lower East Side at: 19 Clinton St., Suite 205, (between Houston and Stanton)

Ave. B turns into Clinton south of Houston.

Take the F or V to 2nd Ave, walk east to Clinton and make a right. Or take the F, J, M or Z to Delancey and walk east (toward the Williamsburg Bridge) to Clinton. Turn left on Clinton and walk toward Houston.

2- What kind of Yoga is practiced at Yoga High?

We teach Hatha Vinyasa Yoga. It is the flowing style of Yoga in which breath and movement are linked.

Sun Salutes and moving sequences are combined with the breath to heat the body and prepare you for deeper poses. Our classes are taught using all different styles of music to make it fun and inspiring.

3- What if I’m not flexible?

Then Yoga is perfect for you. Many people feel that they must be flexible before starting Yoga, but it is actually the opposite. One of the many benefits of Yoga is that it stretches and lengthens the muscles, creating a wider range of movement and release of muscular tension. In fact, we can’t emphasize enough how helpful Yoga is for people wanting to gain more flexibility. All of our classes are taught in a way that makes each student comfortable regardless of their flexibility.

4- I’m brand new to Yoga, what do I do?

The Beginner Workshop series is perfect for you. They are held once a season and they consist of four 90-minute classes on four consecutive Sundays and are designed to prepare you for our Level I classes. The Beginner series will slowly talk and walk you through breathing, healthy alignment, basic asanas (poses), and some frequently asked questions such as why do we OM before & after class and do I have to join in? You will have plenty of time to practice and ask questions so you’ll feel completely at ease when you go to a regular class.

These classes are an introduction to Yoga for anyone who has always wanted to try a class but thought Yoga was not for them; it is also a wonderful chance for more seasoned practitioners to check in with their alignment again.

If you don’t want to wait for the Beginner Series (they are once a season), you’ll be just fine in one of our many Level I classes.

*See Prices for special Beginner packages.

5- What should I wear and what should I bring?

Wear clothes that will allow you to move comfortably. Shorts, tank tops, Yoga pants–basic workout clothes. Don’t worry about footwear since Yoga is practiced barefoot. If you have a mat, bring it. Otherwise you can rent or buy one when you get here. If you tend to perspire a lot, we rent hand towels for $1.

6- What’s the deal with eating before class?

If possible, do not eat at least 2 hours before class. Yoga should be practiced on an empty stomach to avoid discomfort.

7- How early should I arrive for class?

We ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes before classes and workshops to allow yourself to get settled and comfortable. We apologize but we cannot allow entry into the classroom 10 minutes after class begins.

8- What is proper Yoga studio etiquette?

Remove your shoes when entering the studio. We ask that you turn your cell phones off upon arriving (Vibrate is not off), and use a low speaking voice inside the studio. When opening your mat, also be mindful of the loud noise it can make. Please refrain from wearing perfumes or fragrant oils. If you arrive late to the studio, do not enter the Yoga room until after you hear the Oms or the teacher has given you the OK to enter.

9- I am recovering from an injury or surgery. Can I still practice Yoga?

If you are post-surgery, we advise that you consult your doctor before coming to Yoga and that you share that information with your teacher before class begins. We strongly encourage you to inform your teacher of any injuries, recent surgeries or body/movement limitations that may affect your practice in any way.

10- What is a Master Class and is it appropriate for me?

You might think Master Class means you must be a "Master". Not true! These are classes taught by a senior/master teacher where the sequencing might be more challenging, and the focus is more intense. You’ll find that attending an occasional Master Class is a great way to tune up your practice and widen your perspective. Level II and III students are welcome and encouraged. We hope to see you there!

11- Does Yoga High have showers?

Yoga High has 2 bathrooms, a changing room and plenty of cubbies for your personal belongings, but we do not have showers. We rent mats for $2 and towels for $1.

12- I signed up online but couldn’t make the class. What should I do?

No need to do anything. You don’t need to call or email us to let us know. The system doesn’t count you as a student in the class until you actually show up and swipe your key tag. If you bought a drop in class online, it is valid for 1 month and you can use it any time during that month. If you have a class card, the class does not get deducted from the card.
